”I- I don’t even want to know. I really don’t. I’ll be in the kitchen and that thing better start behaving from now on. Familiar or not he still has rules to follow.”
“Mom, he stays in my room all day. Except when he’s being a brat.“ Yes, pointed comment in direction of the silver bengal cat lounging on the windowsill like he owns the goddamn world.

“ – No, I’m not gonna ask them to fry you a fis – No, I won’t fry it; the stove scares me. Fine, you little brat. Mom, Dad, Binx wants tuna!“
( mom; )
”I told you no such thing, it must have been your father who recommended those.” she replied quickly, for she had hated those damn things when they’d come out in the first place. “If it was your uncle Damon, I’m going to hit him. You should have been watching Lost Boys or Doomsday.”
“I want fabulous, that is my simple request, all things fabulous, bigger and better and best. I need something inspiring to help me get along; I need a little fabulous, is that so wrong?“
She was so not doing this to irritate her mom. Nope. Okay, so she was; it was hilarious.
”Ah, yes. Well both movies were good. You should watch them sometime.” Although she was grateful her daughter had gotten into most of the music she and Alaric favored, it made listening to music in the house much easier.
“You told me the High School Musical movies were good and then I spent the next six hours watching the same movie in different settings.“
”Oh no, they wore it all the time. It was their gimmick. Did you not see the movie that brought about the whole group?”
“I missed the 00’s, remember? That whole 'not being born yet’ thing really put me behind on weird gimmicked singers.“
”No it did not, as I already know how to spell that but it does make it easier to remember how, yes. What else have you found?”
“Cheetah Girls. Tell me, did they wear the cheetah print all the time, or was it just for the cover?“
”Are you enjoying this music you found?”
“Did it teach you to spell bananas, because I sure know how to spell it now.“
“I found some of your old music.“
”Well to be honest I didn’t know that about your father either. Besides, you never asked if I had one.” she chided, patting her head before retreating a bit. She would stay close in case Colette had any questions but for the most part she would leave her alone. Cassandra of all people knew how hard it was to get anything done with someone looking over your shoulder.
“You’ve been married for how long? That was just poor planning.“
She laughed, shaking her head at her mother. These conversations she liked – ones that had nothing to do with her friends or her social life. Ones that just had to do with her mom helping her and loving her and good, nice joking. Colette set to work, cutting out backgrounds to make the image transparent again.
”Well you really should have said something earlier, I could have made things so much smoother for you.” she chided as she made quick work of plugging in the tablet and getting everything set up. “Oh I’m not the best, but I do try. This really should help though, lord knows it did when I got my first one.”
“I didn’t know you had a tablet,“ she grumbled, though her tone was playful as she waited for her mom to be done. The original picture was on her flashdrive. She made quick work of disconnecting it. “I didn’t know Dad was a tattoo artist. No one tells me anything anymore.” Her lips pursed to a pout before she took control of the tablet and switched over the image.
